As it turns outā¦
There are only 81 days left until the ball, and for many of you (like, way more than we expected) this will be your very first fantasy ball! In this email, weāll give you some insights as to how it all works, what you can expect, and answer some questions that have been popping up.
(As a quick aside, we recently revamped the entire website, so give it a look!)
What is a Fantasy Ball?
Want to dress up as if you were in your favorite fantasy world, and have a fun night with like-minded individuals? Thatās a fantasy ball. Really, thatās it! Most fantasy balls have a theme (Vampires, Renaissance, Victorian, Pirates,) and some are more strict than others about holding to it.
Then there may be games (like trivia, or scavenger hunts,) vendors or all sorts, dancing (some even send dance choreography instruction before the event,) scripted performances (some with plotlines that evolve over the night,) and plenty of photo opportunities and other exhibits to peruse.
What about at Fox and Ember?
For the Fox and Ember Fantasy Ball, weāre embracing an autumnal fae-court vibe, taking thematic beats from the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Weāll haveā¦
hand-made craft vendors
local authors and book signing
actors in cosplay
a dedicated dance floor
live dance instruction (itās going to be great!)
a broad, thematic buffet with dairy/gluten free options
a cash bar with specialty drinks
performance from local talent
a roaming photographer
a photo booth and photographic play-date areas
ACOTAR trivia (and unhinged theories board)
a fashion show to flaunt your fit (non-competitive)
TRINKET TRADING (weāll talk about this in a later email)
goodie bags for all our guests
aaaaaaaand more
The venue is also at The Log Cabin, in Holyoke, MA. Itās a venue on the edge of Mt. Tom, overlooking the valley below. In the fall, it will be aflame with amber hues (until the sun sets.)
But do I need to have read ACOTAR?
No, not at all. There are definitely some ACOTAR specific events (the trivia, for example,) but that will not stop you from having a good time. Itās important to us that thereās always something to partake in throughout the night, regardless of the eventās themes.
What should I wear?
Weāve released an inspiration board in the community Discord, and on Instagram. Feel free to check these out as a starting point. Alternatively, imagine youāre in a fae-fantasy world, attending a courtly affair among autumnās falling leaves. What would you wear?
Start from there, and work toward something that makes you happy. The community Discord has folks you can talk to to bounce ideas around, and potentially find folks who can help you directly.
The hard rules we ensure everyone is playing by, is that intimate areas need to remain securely covered throughout the night, and weapons must be clearly cosplay, without sharp edges or points that could cause injury.
When do I need my tickets by?
Frankly, the sooner you grab your tickets, the more it helps. On our side, it lets us get a better feel for how many folks will be there, which determines the budget weāll have, and what sorts of accommodations we need to make for the event as a whole.
On your side, itāll ensure you get one of the discounts currently available on the site. Additionally, finding hotel accommodations (if youāre coming in from out of town) can be tricky in the fall, as āleaf peeping seasonā is in full swing.
Weāve set aside some hotel blocks at discounted rates, but those will go quick. The links to those discounts are available in your ticket confirmation email.
What if I have more questions?
Feel free to leave a comment on this post, on Instagram, or in the Discord. Weāre pretty responsive everywhere. Otherwise, you can always email us here: hey(at)foxandemberfantasyball.com
